Time Is Money

As a business owner or department head, you already know the significance of technology. But are you sure you're getting the full picture and how it impacts your bottom line? Our fast paced, action packed world is getting even faster. But technology can either save your company time and money while increasing productivity - or it can slow things down to a crawl. And therein lies the challenge: Finding cost-effective tech solutions and hiring people who can implement them.
The Model T
When the first car came out in the late 19th century, we were able to handle most repairs on it. The technology was simple, so fixing something didn't take a lot of effort. As the years passed and the technology that went into cars became more complex, motorists soon reached a point when they needed an "expert" - or a mechanic - to take care of their vehicles.
The same analogy can be made with technology. It wasn't that long ago when a company's "computer expert" was just an employee who had a personal computer at home and who knew a thing or two about common problems. How many times back then did you hear this? "Just turn your computer off and restart it." The days when almost anyone could look under the hood and fix an IT problem are long gone. Now we need a specialist.
There are a lot of them out there. Just like driveway mechanics, the world is well populated with IT specialist who claim to know what they are doing. Be careful with whom you entrust with your technology needs. Why trust your money, your company and your success to a "driveway mechanic?" When it comes to handling problems, you really should go with a known expert -- someone who knows the difference between Linux and PC, for example. But it goes beyond that. You need someone who talks the talk, walks the walk, and who won't mislead you. And you need someone who can explain things to you in such a way that you don't have to be a programmer or know code to understand him or her.
Hiring the Right Person for the Job
Do you know what automated software testing is? Are you getting the most bang for your buck with your hardware and software? Are your current operating systems allowing you to run at peak efficiency? Better yet, do you trust the staff members who are supposed to take care of your tech needs?
Again, time is money. You need to work with people you trust who can implement effective changes within the confines of your budget. Otherwise, you're just wasting time - and money.
