Friends And Enemies In Battlestar Galactica

By Cathy E. Dach

The science fiction characters and stories of Battlestar Galactica have been very popular for many years and have spanned television, video games, and novels. The original television series that made the characters and core plot lines so popular amongst hardcore sci-fi fans was released in the 1970's. There are many more television series based around the characters now and they have discovered an international audience along with online games that include the same characters. The fact that BG has been able to get into the gaming world is particularly interesting; game designers have included the majority of the key characters and creatures that are already familiar to fans of the series. What are a few of the traits of these characters and how can you deal with both friends and foes while playing a BG game?

Battlestar Galactica follows the adventures of a tiny group of Humans who are forced from their home planet by the robotic Cylon creatures and have to search for a new home. These two enemy factions are the main character sets for the online games that follow the concepts of the popular TV series. You can either be a Cylon or a Human at the start of the game; the option is yours when making a character. Remember that the faction you go with will have a direct impact on the way your character develops skills, the weapons you will gain access to, and the parts of the gaming world that you will be able to visit safely.

Even though they share some common enemies, the Humans and Cylons of Battlestar Galactica are in direct conflict with one another. Naturally, there will be moments when you find other creatures that do not claim allegiance to either side. You may need to fight some battles in space using your faction's fighter ships while other battles will take place on the ground using your character's abilities and items.

Due to the fact that the BG game designers have chosen to make their game in an online multiplayer style, there are also many social elements to the game. Since you have to work together with other members of your faction you will often find that teaming up with other players is the best way to advance through the game.

Battlestar Galactica currently enjoys a substantial fan base around the world but now it is also able to reach out to gamers. Being given the option to play as either Human or Cylon grants you an interesting choice in the game from the very start.
